Zephyr is the tritagonist of the direct-to-video sequel of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II. He is the son of Captain Phoebus and Esmerelda.
He was voiced by Haley Joel Osment.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Zephyr is deemed one of many elements in the sequel that makes it heavily clash with the first movie, a gritty and mature film that touched on complex themes. In stark contrast, the sequel is considerably more cutesy and kid-friendly, with many audiences deeming Zephyr one of the more blatant representations of that.
- Zephyr doesn't serve a purpose to the story's plot, outside of making Quasimodo look more friendly than he was already presented in the first film by having a "child friend". He also serves as nothing more than a reason for Quasimodo to act when he is in peril.
- Additionally, Zephyr is the third of two already established sidekick characters from the first movie, the Gargoyles and Djali, making his inclusion as such to be redundant.
- Zephyr also doesn't have a discernible personality. What little personality he does display however had gotten on the nerves of many audiences, due to the writers' failed attempt at making him cute and endearing. His dialogue consisting of him just stating that he is Quasimodo's best friend, or showing a vague sense of wonderment towards everything.
- Zephyr steals the spotlight from major characters from the first movie, especially his parents Esmerelda and Captain Phoebus.
