Shadi Enigmar, better known as Zak Gramarye, is the secondary antagonist of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

He is a renowned magician who momentarily hired Phoenix Wright as his lawyer to avoid being arrested for being the murderer of his mentor, Magni, only to be pronounced guilty and disappeared. Afterwards, he would return to defeat Wright in a poker game, which would lead to his death at the hands of Kristof Gavin.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?

• While he was likely meant to be seen as a complex and intriguing villain, he is instead seen as inconsistently written. He is sometimes an intelligent and mysterious character while other times, he’s a petty and arrogant person who is willing to abandon his loved ones if he gets caught.
• In relation to the point above, the story attempts to portray him as sympathetic due to being framed by his best friend and murdered by Gavin, but it ultimately falls flat due to his actions themselves, especially during his final moments where he becomes determined to beat Wright at a poker game simply because Wright beat him before and when he fails, Zak beats his accomplice to unconsciousness with a bottle thinking it was her fault.
• His reasons to sabotage Phoenix Wright by accusing him of cheating don’t make any sense, not only because he was shown to value honesty in poker (as shown when this was the main reasons he refuses Kristoph Gavin as his defense attorney) but also because he literally gave custody of his daughter to Phoenix and gave her his performance right with the witness of a notary just before doing the poker game with him, which means he could have potentially left his daughter in a dire situation if Wright would have been arrested for cheating.
• His rivalry with Wright is disliked by fans since Wright was one of Zak's biggest defenders when falsely accused of murder, yet he still chooses to go out of his way to sabotage Wright in poker and gets upset when Wright still won.

• While Zak does have a small fanbase, they ironically get along with his hatedom due to admitting that that his criticisms aren’t unfounded.
