Villetta Nu is an antagonist in the anime Code Geass. She is a member of the Britannian Purist Faction, an elite part of their military that is discriminatory toward Honorary Britannians. She investigates the terrorist leader Zero and uncovers his identity, but loses her memory and falls in love with Kaname Ohgi, a member of the Black Knights.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- While an effective villain at first, the show attempts to give her sympathetic character development later, but for most viewers this failed as she’s treated with far more sympathy than she would otherwise deserve.
- She’s one of the more racist Britannians and unlike Jeremiah or Nina is never given any motive or explanation for it.
- Her relationship with Ohgi is seen by many fans as getting too much focus and has a negative impact on Ohgi’s character development, as he becomes obsessed with her to the point of irrationality and makes some increasingly bad decisions as a result.
- She pushes Ohgi into betraying Zero and leading the rest of the Black Knights to do so by telling him about Geass, making him think Zero couldn’t be trusted. It’s also likely her testimony was skewed to make him think Lelouch had worse motives than he really did. It also makes the Black Knights look like idiots for not questioning her word at all despite her being a Britannian agent who had been antagonizing them.
- This results in the Black Knights trying to execute Lelouch and causes Rolo’s death which is the final straw that causes Lelouch to fall into despair and plan the Zero Requiem along with Suzaku, which leads both of them to get very tragic endings while Villetta is not called out at all for her role in this.
- Despite the numerous problems she caused, including her critical role in the story’s tragic ending, she is treated like the victim, claiming she “just wanted to belong somewhere” and gets an unearned happy ending by being happily married to Ohgi, despite not showing any remorse or atonement for her actions under Britannia.
