~ Urashiki Ōtsutsuki revealing his power, not predicting he will getting beaten by two children and an old man. |
Urashiki Ōtsutsuki is a major antagonist in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime. He is a low-ranking member of the Ōtsutsuki clan, a group of aliens who seek power.
While he was originally going to have a larger villainous role, the author ended up not knowing what to do with his character so ended up killing him off in a filler arc.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- While he’s not meant to be likeable, he’s still very annoying in general for the wrong reasons. Like other Ōtsutsuki clan members (and many Boruto villains in general), he is cartoonishly evil and one-dimensional bad guy for no reason.
- His power scaling makes ABSOLTUTELY NO SENSE because he is able to effortlessly beat Sasuke (a Demi-god-like Shinobi) but struggles against a group of two child genin's who haven't reached their full potentials and an old man with toad powers.
- That could have been an amazing chance to show one more time Jiraiya using his sage mode and giving his senjutsu more screen time, because it made the debut right before his death and the public never had for real a second opportunity to see Jiraiya fighting like it again in others situations. But Usashiki losing without even a shade that Jiraiya was about to use it just showed how least Urashiki did for the anime in a deepest level and the nothing that he added even for fanservice.
- He hardly uses his Ōtsutsuki powers for plot convenience, such as when he doesn't use his Byakugan to hunt down the heroes, just because he doesn't feel like wasting his powers (even though it should be absolutely no problem for a God like him.) He also has a literal future seeing ability that he never utilizes except for in quick fights.
- His fight is very poorly animated, especially compared to other important villains. Even Kaguya's battle is much better in comparison, despite being one of the most hated fights in the franchise.
- He is not intimidating like he should be and somehow he gets tricked multiple times despite having a literal future seeing ability, such as letting himself succumb to the poison in Jiraiya’s toad.
- His fused design looks like a cheap knock-off of Momoshiki's and he looks like a white and black bird hybrid, which is impossible to take seriously.
- Despite being hyped up for multiple years, he dies a pathetic and embarrassing death like any one-off villain and his arc adds nothing to the plot overall and leaves many viewers wanting to get to canon material. It doesn’t help that his arc lasts a few months and fillers are already a problem.
- He is seemingly forgotten about after his death (such as the Ōtsutsuki shrine where he is nowhere to be seen) aside from appearing in cameos, which comes off as inconsistent writing and makes no sense for someone who was part of an alien race trying to destroy the world.
