Let me pull out my smartphone.—Touya's iconic quote
Touya Mochizuki is the main protagonist of In Another World with My Smartphone. Once a normal boy in Japan, he would accidently get killed by God with lightning and make the latter felt sorry and make up to him by reincarnating him to a fantasy world.
In the Japanese dub, he was voice by Katsumi Fukuhara. In the English dub, he was voiced by Jessie James Grelle in season 1 and by Bryson Baugus in season 2.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- First off, his origin of getting isekai'd was stupid. He died because God accidently killed him with lightning.
- Like most other Isekai protagonists, he becomes extremely overpowered after getting reincarnated because of this. He instantly overcomes any obstacle or problem thrown at him, making him a Gary Stu even other Isekai MCs like Rimuru Tempest or Ainz Ooal Gown who are overpowered in their own works at least had some sort of struggle at some point.
- Similar to Ichika Orimura, he is a generic harem protagonist who instantly gets girls to fall in love with him.
- While not as perverted as other harem protagonists, he once purposely made a bunch of slimes attack his fiancés which cause parts off their clothes getting melted and suffered no consequences.
- While at least other overpowered isekai MCs like Rimuru Tempest or Ainz Ooal Gown at least had personality, he has an extremely flat and dull personality, and while it did slightly improve in season 2, it did little to fix his character.
- He is extremely subservient to his fiancés listening to them way too easy even for his kind personality at all as he would've stand up for himself every now and then.
- It's likely possible that even his first English voice actor, Jessie James Grelle, didn't like him either, because they would be replaced with Bryson Baugus in season 2.
Trivia[]
- He was ranked number 3 in WatchMojo's "Top 10 Boring Anime Characters (ft. Todd Haberkorn)".
