The Undertaker sometimes called Taker (real name Mark William Calaway) is one of the main protagonists from the Sony/WWE animated movie Surf's Up 2: WaveMania.
He is one of the members of The Hang 5, and was voiced by his real-life counterpart in the sequel.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- One of the biggest complaints of the sequel is how Cody was previously established to have idolised Big Z. The sequel retcons this in favour of establishing Taker and the rest of the Hang 5 as Cody's idols.
- His attempts at being funny mostly do not work. While there certainly was potential with this iteration of Mark Calloway's iconic character, there're a lot of jokes and moments with this depiction of the Deadman that feel very out-of-line with his supernatural and paranormal tone. Some examples include the following:
- During dinner at the island, he comes out of nowhere and appears to almost try and eat Chicken Joe, only to ask if he can lay an egg in his mouth.
- In the desert, he says wants to live in the desert and willingly lets himself drown in quicksand, forcing J.C to save him. showing how much of an idiot he is.
- After getting struck by lightning during the trenches, Chicken Joe eventually revives the Undertaker on-land with jellyfish, which he subsequently tries to wear like a bra.
- However some of the jokes with him do actually work, and do feel more in-line. An example is when he slides across the tight-rope with Chicken Joe while laying in a coffin-like position.
- While he and the rest of the Hang 5 rightfully called out Cody for trying to sabotage Tank and nearly killing Chicken Joe as a result, it quickly became hypocritical when they did the exact thing to Tank later on. This is made even worse by the fact that its Tank who nearly gets killed rather than Joe.
- Although in the defence of Taker, he is not actually shown playing an active part in Tank's near-death experience.
- Like a lot of the Hang 5, Mark Calloway does not deliver a great performance as his penguin counterpart. This is mainly due to how he isn't trying to do anything unique to help this version of his character stand-out: he is simply just putting on the voice he does for the Undertaker, simple as that.
- With how much the movie tries to make this iteration of Undertaker come off as more comedic, a trait heavily out-of-line with him as a character, this movie, and its depiction of the character feel like nothing more than a stain on the legacy of Mark Calloway and his legendary career.
