~ The Fallen's most famous quote who would later have no revenge at the end whatsoever. |
Megatronus Prime, later known as The Fallen, is the titular main antagonist of the 2009 film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the second installment of the Transformers film series.
After defecting from the Autobots and betraying his brothers known as the Primes, The Fallen founded the Decepticons and seeks his vengeance against the Autobots and their human allies.
He was voiced by the late Tony Todd in the film and James Arnold Taylor in the video games and early versions of the film.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?
- Rarely appears in the film, having minimal screen time that left him nothing but an unmemorable presence.
- Despite his backstory, The Fallen doesn't have any real motivation for his crimes or personality outside wanting vengeance against the Autobots and simply hating humans.
- Many of the powers that The Fallen has aren't explained.
- Even though he was set up as this ultimate threat for the Autobots to overcome, Optimus Prime takes him out easily.
- What's worse is he is shown having some unexplained teleportation ability before the fight yet he never used it during the fight. The fact this is in a series well-known for its action makes it even more anti-climatic.
- Given that we're supposed to hate The Fallen for betraying his brothers and wanting to destroy the Autobots and their human allies, the audience isn't even rewarded with a satisfying death for The Fallen as the final battle against him only lasts a few minutes and is an anticlimactic, confusing mess.
- While he has the ability to transform into a Cybertronian Destroyer Jet, he doesn't actually transform.
- Not even his cool design and Tony Todd's performance can save The Fallen from being easily the least-regarded Big Bad in the entire Transformers film series, with his direct successor Sentinel Prime being a far more popular character.
- Even Michael Bay himself admitted that he hated The Fallen and thought he wasn't a good villain.
- As a movie version unlike his video game adaptations, he is very unfaithful to his movie comics self and lacks the intimidation that both his comics and video game selves have, instead shows how much of a pathetic, lazy and incompetent excuse of a potential threat he turned out to be in the film.
- Overall, he is a massive disappointment of an adaptation to one of the most powerful and imposing villains in the G1 comics whose threat level even exceeded that of Megatron.
Trivia
- He is the only version of the Fallen, as well as the only Transformers Pure Evil character to be considered a Scrappy.
- A possible reason that the Fallen failed as a character and wasn't a good antagonist was because since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was in development when the Writers Guild strike was happening and the writers of the film joined the strike, Michael Bay, wanting the film to be punctual and not getting delayed, decided to finish the script by himself, making the final result.
