Teruteru Hanamura is a supporting character in the Danganronpa franchise.

He is the Ultimate Chef and a member of Class 77-B who is known for his perverted tendencies and delicious meals.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?

• His perverted tendencies were meant to be creepy, but they are taken to the point where it distracts from the fact that he is also meant to be a source of comic relief. This includes trying to trick Sonia into giving him a blowjob and creepily telling Mahiru that he wants to slather her with oil.
• As stated before, he is meant to be a comic relief, but his excessive perverted moments cause whatever actual comedy to come from him come off as minor at best, at least up until the anime.
• Due to his low presence, he is unable to have a meaningful character arc like the other characters and thus, only exists for comic relief.

Trivia

• He is often compared to Hifumi Yamada from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, due to both having extremely perverted moments.
• In a similar situation to the character, Hiro, Teruteru is agreed to be less of a Scrappy in appearances following GD due to having more slapstick humor and cooking jokes involved with his character and more moments of common sense, such as when Hiyoko spiked his soup, causing everyone to become aroused, Teruteru condemned her for it and rejected the urge to take advantage of his classmates. This has even gained him a very vocal fan base, although unlike Hiro, it wasn’t enough to rescue him from the Scrappy heap, given those media are not as popular as the game.
• Allegedly, Teruteru is meant to be a second attempt at having a perverted character in Danganronpa, as the first attempt, Yuto Kamishiro from the book, Danganronpa Zero, was negatively received even by the makers of Danganronpa.
• In response to his reception, there is an ongoing debate between the moderate sized fans of Miu Iruma from DV3 and the small, but vocal fans of Teruteru. Fans of Teruteru claim that Miu essentially copies Teruteru's character and is just as perverted (if not more perverted) as him, but isn’t as hated because she’s attractive, while fans of Miu claim that Miu has more time to develop as a character and is portrayed in a more comedic light than him.
  • Despite this, it’s also popular for their fans to pair them up, often as best friends or as romantic partners simply because of their similarities.
