Sean "Sweet" Johnson is the deuteragonist of the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He is the eldest child of the Johnson family and the leader of Grove Street Families street gang.
He was voiced by Faizon Love.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He gets considerable amount of backlash for the way he treats CJ throughout the game. Despite being intended to be seen as a good older brother, their relationship is borderline abusive, despite the game not portraying it as such. Instead, Sweet is portrayed as being in the right, which doesn't sit well with people.
- After CJ comes back to Los Santos to attend their mother's funeral, Sweet constantly chastises him for his past mistakes like running away to Liberty City after Brian's death when it was their mother's idea. When the Johnson siblings reunite at Beverly's funeral, Sweet reprimands CJ for running away from yet another funeral when the latter simply failed to make it on time.
- Sweet also puts the blame on CJ for the gang falling apart despite the fact that he is the leader, yet he didn't take responsibility during the five years CJ was in Liberty City. This makes him come across as a hypocrite to his detractors.
- Even worse, after CJ goes out of his way to bail Sweet out of prison and tries to convince his brother to pursue a successful life outside the hood, Sweet interpretes his brother's successes in San Fierro and Las Venturas as him betraying the gang and reprimands him for it.
- Fans also criticize Sweet for nearly giving up to crack when he feels despaired, which would in itself be an act of betraying the gang. This again makes him come across as a hypocrite.
- Despite being intended to be as sympathetic as CJ due to their family and gang falling apart, Sweet's aforementioned actions make him very hard to sympathize with.
- He's racist towards Mexicans, as seen in the way he treats his sister for dating Cesar Vialpando (although he's also hostile towards him in part because he's the leader of a rival gang). This also is another example of his hypocrisy, as he himself is in an interracial relationship as seen in the mission "Sweet's Girl".
- Despite Sweet being CJ's biological brother, fans see fan-favorite Cesar as a better older brother figure towards CJ.
