Susan Heffley is a major character in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise.
She is the controlling mother of Rodrick, Greg and Manny Heffley. She is a former member of the PTA who once worked as a preschool teacher, and once was the substitute teacher in Greg's class.
In the first three Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, Susan is played by Rachael Harris, with that role being filled by Alicia Silverstone in the fourth movie in 2017. In the first two animated films she is voiced by Erica Cerra.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- She constantly spoils her youngest son, Manny, allowing him to become a spoiled brat, even if it inconveniences the rest of the family, such as praising him for vandalizing Greg's door.
- Many fans compare her to a Karen for her personality due to how she always acts like a control freak towards her family and occasionally other people.
- She makes no attempts to defend Greg from Rodrick's abuse, just like with Manny.
- She constantly embarrasses Greg, with examples including bringing his coat to school or publishing his insecurities about puberty on a magazine.
- She clearly cares about Manny more than the rest of the family, even at one point getting mad at Greg for almost waking him up when he almost got hit by a car.
- Unlike Frank or Rodrick, she rarely ever has character development or has emotional moments with Greg.
- She is rarely funny compared to Rodrick and the movie version of Frank, bringing minor laughs at best.
- Similar to Manny, she can't count as a Hate Sink for obvious reasons as Jeff didn't intend for her to be hated and she has a few heroic moments.
Dog Days[]
- She forced Greg to go outside several times.
- She forced Greg to come up with 80 dollars to pay off his own debt rather than pay for it herself.
- She collected all of Greg's birthday money to pay off Mr. Jefferson's debt.
- Rather than buying Greg a new cake after Joe's dog Killer ate a huge chunk of the cake, she cut off the parts that the latter didn't touch.
- She dumped Rodrick's fish into Greg's bowl, which was an extremely unintelligent idea as the former was aggressive, resulting in Greg's fishbowl being eaten.
The Long Haul[]
- Before the book, she was a terrible mother to Greg, such as telling him "Te amo" meant "What's your name" in Spanish when it really meant "I love you". She also had tried to turn Greg getting his hand scratched by a cat into a teaching moment by spelling the word cat to him.
- She forced Greg and her family into going on a road trip without telling them beforehand.
- She takes the pig from the carnival as a prize rather than walking away, leading to the trip becoming worse and worse as it went on.
The Getaway[]
- She had Manny press the stop button on an escalator, causing the people on it to fall over, which could have caused someone to die or get seriously injured.
- She forced the family to do chores on vacation, putting a Do Not Disturb sign on the door so that the maid wouldn't come in, making her a killjoy.
The Deep End[]
- She had Manny complete every single one of Greg's puzzles, even when he did them by himself.
- She locked Greg and Rodrick's devices into a vault and forced the trip to be educational, making them play Wildlife Bingo.
- She forced the family to be active, not letting them get a break. However, she decided to go to the spa herself, making this hypocritical.
- She made Greg hang out with a group of boys despite how he didn't want to.
Big Shot[]
- She pressured Greg to try out for basketball and put him on a team.
- She manipulated Greg into going into the other team, believing that he would cause his team to lose, all because she wanted a victory for herself. This is arguably her worst action to date. Thankfully, Greg managed to win for his new team.
Party Pooper[]
- She forgot Greg's birthday, causing her to be shamed on Facebook along with Frank Heffley. This was confirmed by Jeff Kinney himself.
