~ Solomon's infamous rant at Sebastian for saving his sister. |
Solomon Sallow is a major antagonist in the open-world action role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy. After using an Unforgivable Curse on a Dark wizard, he left the British Ministry of Magic and retired as an auror to his home in Feldcroft. After his brother and sister-in-law died by toxin, he assumed care for his niece Anne and nephew Sebastian Sallow. A few years later after Anne got cursed by Victor Rookwood Solomon and Sebastian has a fundamental disagreement over the possibility of treatment, resulting in him being Sebastians Arch-nemesis and in his dead by the hands of his nephew.
He was voiced by Enn Reitel.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Out of apparently no true reason, he prevents every possible idea Sebastian had in the attempt to cure his beloved sister Anne. Mostly followed by him belittling Sebastian and trying to disgust him away, like he has absolutely no love for him at all, despite being family. He goes that far, that he wants to inform the Headmaster of Hogwarts about him, making his life actively miserable.
- Also, he doesn’t seem to love his other family members. Going so far to insult his own deceased brother, just to spite Sebastian's alleged stubbornness.
- His love for Anne is also questionable, since he’s barely talking to her and what he really does to help her was never shown on screen.
- There are antagonists who are against their families, but Solomon shouldn’t look like a bad guy in the eyes of the audience but rather like a reasonable parent figure. However, because of the writing, the fans never thought like that about him.
- When the new Hogwarts-Student (The Player) tries to defend Sebastian, he directly insults them too.
- Even when Solomon says that he’s against the Dark Arts, he also prevents attempts by Sebastian with harmless stuff like plants, like in his first cutscene, even if that wouldn’t hurt anybody even if Anne would try it.
- To be against the Unforgivable Curses is not a bad thing at all, but that argument has nothing to do with Annes case.
- The fans simply see a man, who puts his own principles above the lives of his family and that makes him more hateable than reasonable.
- What the fans hated most about him, was that Anne believed more in him than in her brother, which hurts not only Anne’s but also Solomon’s character, because the player never saw a single reason why that’s the case.
- Despite Sebastian’s and his friend best efforts to stop the goblins from attacking Feltcroft, after Sebastian used the Imperius Curse, Solomon shouts at them, evicted Sebastian from their household, and forbade him from coming near them again.
- In his boss fight, he, notably an experienced former auror, so a master against the Dark Arts, loses against two five graders (also the player came only that year to Hogwarts to learn their first spells.), who were additionally attacked by Inferius. This is extremely pathetic, even if the new student is something special.
- Also interesting about this boss fight. He shouted that he just wanted to save Sebastian. Following his spells where he wants to burn Sebastian and his friend to ashes.
- So, his death by Sebastian was treated by the game as a big mistake, but many fans actually thinks that Solomon deserved it.
- His character suffers by too few true background information. He said that he used Dark Magic on a Dark wizard, but the player doesn’t see the direct consequences on that case or the reaction by the Ministry for example.
- Also, the player doesn’t see what he really tried to help Anne, he just told by two visits at two doctors but that is no excuse to absolutely reject every further option Sebastian suggests trying.
- With more “Show, don’t tell” he would probably be still not popular but at least much more understandable in his actions, and perhaps have more defenders. The way the developers have done it, the players see him as a rude, unsupportive and hateable jerk who fails the reasonable aspect the Developer wanted to make in the situation with Sebastian.
Trivia[]
- He’s the first Wizarding World Scrappy who isn’t in the Harry Potter timeline.
- A big part in his Scrappy status is the fact that Sebastian is one of the most popular characters of the whole game. So Sebastian's fans obviously hated Solomon.
