Solkzagyl Keltnaglsyn is a supporting character in Final Fantasy XIV, acting as one of the overarching protagonists of the Paladin questline.
He is the former captain of the Sultansworn who was framed for stealing the Oathkeeper sword and thus deemed a traitor. Eventually, Solkzagyl was able to clear his name with the help of the Warrior of Light and went on to mentor the paladin, Constaint, and tricks them into training himself and helping him find the Oathkeeper.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Despite his insistence on a paladin staying true to their oaths, he hypocritically admits to breaking his own oaths to accomplish his goals and never shows remorse for doing so.
- His overall plan to reclaim the Oathkeeper was unnecessarily complicated and lethal. It involved faking his death and leaving clues for Constaint and The Warrior of Light to find so they can follow his path while having the bandits who stole the sword try to kill the two of them before forcing them to battle each other to power up the Oathkeeper before fighting the winner.
- While his treatment of Constaint is painted as a necessary for his training, Solkzagyl is extremely manipulative and condescending towards the young paladin, with one comment implying that he expected Constaint to die from the bandits.
- Despite his hypocritical and dangerous actions, he is never called out for his behavior, instead being painted as a heroic mentor instead.
Trivia[]
- Solkzagyl didn’t originally debut as a Scrappy due to his intriguing backstory and mysterious nature. It wasn’t until the "Heavensward" quest where his actions pushed him into a Scrappy.
- He is one of the two Scrappies of the Paladin questline, alongside Jenlyns. Interestingly, both are hated for being unintentionally unsympathetic and taking their morals too seriously.
