Skids & Mudflap are two supporting characters from the 2009 live-action blockbuster, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Skids was voiced by Tom Kenny while Mudflap was voiced by Reno Wilson.
What Makes Them Scrappies?
- Similar to Sam and Mikaela (and to a lesser extent, Bumblebee), they steal the spotlight away from more prominent character such as Optimus Prime.
- A major reason for their hatred is because both Skids and Mudflap are painfully unfunny racist caricatures of African Americans.
- One annoying thing they do is often argue or even brawl with each other.
- The quote regarding neither of them being able to read only helps reinforce how much of a racist caricature both of them are.
- While Bay originally intended for Skids and Mudflap's characters to poke jabs at white guys who emulate hip hop culture to an offensive degree, the execution fell flat on its face when you remember that robots in the Transformers franchise don't actually have races.
- After realizing how unpopular both characters were, Bay made the conscious decision of both cutting them from Dark of the Moon and having Sentinel Prime kill them off in the Dark of the Moon novelization.
- While they died with honor, sacrificing themselves for others (and Mudflap trying to avenge his brother), it doesn't make them completely likable.
