Mal finds the infobox on this page admirable, as its pretty dead, as evidenced by how many, if not all sections, in it are as empty as his heart and the land he rules. Next thing you know, he might rule over it. Prevent this from happening by updating and expanding the infobox. |
| “ | Oh Kitana. My first husband, your father was a fool. Jerrod believed that we were no better than commoners. He refused to assert the privileges of our throne. He traded away our power, our divine rights. Edenia grew weak and vulnerable. Then Shao Kahn invaded, embracing his power taking what was his. Here was a man unashamed to assert his privilege and who vowed to protect mine. I had found my true love and to consecrate our bond, I killed Jerrod for him. | „ |
| ~ Sindel's most infamous quote |
Sindel is one of the major antagonists of Mortal Kombat's reboot timeline. Unlike her original counterpart who was a genuinely good person who was corrupted in Mortal Kombat 3 before Kitana redeemed her, Sindel from the reboot was an evil person even before being resurrected by Quan Chi.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- Her killing off most of the main characters in Mortal Kombat 2011, while under Quan Chi's brainwashing was a diablo ex machina, as it was a cheap and forced way to kill off most of the cast.
- The main source of the Mortal Kombat fanbase's hatred for reboot Sindel came from Mortal Kombat 11. Specifically, the reveal that she was an evil person prior to her resurrection at the hands of Quan Chi.
- This created a massive plot hole within the story because in Mortal Kombat (2011) she was portrayed of being brainwashed by Quan Chi during her resurrection with her bio matching up her original self. But the reveal that she was evil the whole time, makes the brainwashing pointless with it contradicting previous information.
- Putting aside the hatred Sindel displays for Kitana in the new timeline, Sindel's transformation from pretending to be a good person to being evil into a character that was pure evil all along. What's infuriating is that Ed Boon finds this version of Sindel more interesting and thinks the version of her from the original timeline, the mama bear who would do anything to protect her daughter, was a boring damsel in distress.
- Her getting killed off by Shang Tsung was very satisfying and well deserved, but then the writers brought her back (or an alternate version of her) in Mortal Kombat 1, just to kill off her good counterpart. (who is more loved and adored by the fans due to the fact that she was nothing like this Sindel and was more benevolent and wise in comparison). And while New Era Sindel was still alive, she was horrified and disgusted upon seeing what her reboot counterpart was like when Liu Kang showed her the previous timeline.
- Whilst the idea of an alternate version of Sindel that willingly allies with Shao Khan is interesting, she was handled very poorly in 9 and 11.
Trivia[]
- Reboot Sindel is the second character from the Mortal Kombat franchise to be a scrappy, the first being Meat.
- Reboot Sindel's villainous retcon was so infamous, that some fans commonly refer to this version of her as "Twindel".
- This nickname seemingly originated from a youtuber, The4thSnake, who is partially known for his extreme disdain for the Sindel retcon.
