Shira is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Granny) of Ice Age: Continental Drift and a supporting character in Ice Age: Collision Course. She is a former pirate smilodon who becomes Diego's wife in Ice Age: Continental Drift.

She is voiced by Jennifer Lopez.

What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]

  • Even the's often compared with Lola Bunny in that she's mostly just a boring tough girl clone of one of the main characters who only exists to be a Satelite love interest of the same character.
  • Unlike Ellie, who served to contrast Manny's personality, had a different backstory and served a purpose in Manny's arc, Shira is mostly a cut and paste of Diego in the first movie and even her own redemption arc feels like his same arc of the first movie but less developed and doesn't seem to add anything to Diego as a character beyond giving Diego a mate in comparison to how Ellie was to Manny.
  • Ellie had a developed relationship with everyone else from the herd which make fans quickly accept her as part of the herd, in contrast Shira who has little to none interactions with everyone but Diego thus doesn't fit with the herd as well.
  • She has a very telegraphed and half baked redemption arc, since the very first moment, she appears only out of a few moments of bonding with Diego, and Captain Gutt becoming more mean towards her.
  • Her pretty white fur and flawless face sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the more ugly pirates, with the only part of her that's even remotely asymmetric being that she only has earrings on one ear. Her design is also sometimes criticized for trying way too hard to look female in comparison to Ellie who looks more like a real animal.
  • Diego and Shira romance is criticized of being rather quickly developed, spending most of their screen time snapping at each other and share only one conversation alone until Shira suddenly decides to help the Herd. Compare this with how Manny and Ellie developed throught the whole second movie and shared a lot of intimate moments before deciding to remain together.
  • The writers never seemed to have any interest in developing her, as beyond her introductory movie she barely had any role in the rest of the franchise: she has a minor subplot in Ice Age: Collision Course, that is reduced to one scene at the beginning and one at the end, and has few lines besides that, had a cameo in a 2013 comic book, had a brief mention in the Easter Special The Great Egg-Scapade and then disappeared with no explanation in The Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild from the franchise.
  • Like Peaches and Brooke, she was completely ignored from the recap of The Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild, and doesn't appear in the movie with no explanation, despite still being part of the herd the last time we saw her and her old boss Captain Gutt appearing in the recap.
    • While people were mad about this, it was moreso due to the lack of explanation and not them wanting to see more of Shira.

Trivia[]

  • While her canonical counterpart is considered a Scrappy, she does have a small fanbase out of fanfiction writers giving her a fanon interpretation or simply using her as a default character to ship with Diego.
    • With that said she's still controversial in the Fanfiction community, with some fans bashing her in favor of other couples like the much more popular Sid/Diego.
