What Makes Them Scrappies?[]

  • The main criticism they receive is that they’re made in CGI instead of being portrayed by actors. Many people also criticized the explanation that it would have been offensive to people with dwarfism, claiming that the Dwarves being made with CGI has took away from them the opportunity to play a major role in the movie.
  • Their designs are also criticized for being uncanny, and caused many memes on the web.
  • For the most part, they don’t have any interesting personalities and instead feel more like rehashes of their original versions.
  • It’s also criticized that they don’t exhibit their defining character traits, making them mostly similar.
  • Another criticism they receive is that they don’t have an important role in the movie, which made them feel pointless in many viewers’ eyes.
