Scaredy Shroom is a recurring plant throughout the Plants Vs. Zombies franchise, appearing in most of the games. In the original game, he is the sixth plant unlocked in the Night levels and costs 25 sun. He eventually returned in Plants Vs. Zombies 2 in the 10.6.1 update of the game, being a 'Seedium' plant that requires 250 seed packets to unlock.
What Makes Them a Scrappy?[]
- While Scaredy Shroom is a decent plant functionally, he is often regarded as one of the worst plants in PVZ 1 by fans, due to him essentially being the night version of Peashooter, an already bad plant. His gimmick of hiding when zombies are near it also hinders its usefulness by a lot, meaning he easily gets outclassed by his fellow Mushrooms and other plants.
- While he was initially planned to return as part of Dark Ages in PVZ 2, he was ultimately cut from the world for unknown reasons. Once he was added however, his addition was received negatively by fans; many did not like how he was added to the game as late into its lifespan as it was, with many going as far as to accuse his addition of being nostalgia bait, given there was little demand for Scaredy Shroom to return in the first place. Criticism especially fell on Scaredy's new design, with many hating it for its ugly design.
- Worse, Scaredy functions exactly like how he did in the first game, meaning there was very little reason for him to be brought back in the first place. Once again, he is regarded as one of the worst plants in PVZ 2.
- While his fellow missing Mushrooms, Doom Shroom, Ice Shroom and Sea Shroom were also added very late in the game and mostly nerfed, Ice Shroom especially, their additions were still received positively as they were unique from their first game counterparts; plus, they were for the most part, plants people wanted to see return. Scaredy Shroom unfortunately remains severely disliked by fans for the opposite reasons.
- While its plant food is decent, it is nearly identical to that of Puff Shroom's. The only differences are that it only affects other Scaredies in a 3x3 area, rather than every one on the lawn, and that it doesn't reset a timer due to Scaredy not possessing one.
- Scaredy Shroom is ultimately considered to be one of the worst plants in the PVZ franchise, due to its hiding ability and being identical to that of Peashooter.
Trivia[]
- Scaredy Shroom along with Vamporcini, Spring Bean and Bzzz Button are the few Plants Vs. Zombies characters to be scrappy.
- As a saving grace, Scaredy is actually extremely useful when speedrunning PVZ 1 due to its fast recharge time and low Sun cost.
