Sarousch is the main antagonist of Disney's 2002 film The Hunchback of Notre Dame II: The Secret of the Bell.
He was voiced by singer and actor Michael McKean.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He is considered a failed attempt to replace Judge Claude Frollo for many reasons.
- Judge Claude Frollo was a truly serious villain, one of the icons of at least Disney villains. Sarousch is considered very forgettable with his some forgetting his existence immediately after watching the film.
- Judge Claude Frollo was a complex character. Although Sarousch had a chance to become complex as he clearly has problems with his appearance, this was not addressed in the film, which viewers considered a wasted plot point.
- The relationship between Sarousch and his assistant Madellaine is completely copied from the relationship between Frollo and Quasimodo. But if Quasimodo's reasons for betraying Frollo were more than weighty, then Madellaine's reasons for betraying Sarousch are seen as hard to fully understand, since it's never seen how serious is Sarousch in abusing Madellaine, besides some implications.
- Judge Claude Frollo crossed the moral event horizon more than once. Sarousch has done nothing even remotely resembling a moral event horizon.
- Judge Claude Frollo died an ironic death (considering his last words) and fought to the last, while Sarousch simply threw a tantrum and tried to bribe the guards who arrested him.
- Also, even without being compared with Frollo, he isn't a well-written character at all.
- His plan to steal the La Fidelle isn't logical as not only the reason of this action isn't even said at all, but he couldn't even use it.
- As it was already said, he has some insecurities about his appearance, which could've made him a complex character, but this line didn't get any development.
- He doesn't even pose any serious threat.
- While he has charisma, it doesn't detract from his poor character.
- Overall, he is one of the reasons, why The Hunchback of Notre Dame II: The Secret of the Bell is considered as another unnessesary sequel for a famous Disney film.
