Sal Manella is a minor character in the video game, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

He is a famous movie director responsible for the creation of several in-universe Steel Samurai films. After his lead actor, Jack Hammer, was murdered by a producer, Dee Vasquez, Sal agrees to help her cover it up.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]

He is extremely perverted towards women around him, such as fawning and drooling over Maya seconds after meeting her or letting himself be pushed around by Dee because he likes when she does that. This made him came out as creepy to the fans of the games.
His character design, particularly his pig nose and waving tongue, are considered ugly to look at.
He talks in a recurring L33T lingo, which can be distracting to the players when trying to read what he’s saying. He additionally references memes and internet lingo, which become outdated shortly after his appearances and is saw as annoying.
He spends most of his screen time bragging about his work or deliberately trying to derail the case, which caused annoyance to the players.
Despite his willingness to cover up the murder of one of his actors, he is never punished for his actions and is still allowed to freely direct more projects. This is part of one of the series’ recurring criticisms about witnesses getting away with breaking laws and/or causing problems during the trial.
