~ Rose being judgmental over Scorpius Malfoy and Albus Potter |
Rose Granger-Weasley is a minor character in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and a supporting character in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. She's the daughter of Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley.
She was played by Helena Barlow in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and was played by Cherrelle Skeete in the original West End Palace Theatre production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- She was originally positively received, albeit for a character that barely had less that 5 lines in the original books, and debuted in the most controversial chapter of the otherwise beloved final book. Like most of the children introduced in the epilogue, she was a very popular character for fanfiction, and the small tease of her being interested in Scorpius lead to the two being the most popular ship in Next Generation fan works (probably as a response from disappointed Draco/Hermione shippers), however, once she got more of a role in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a lot fans quickly grew to dislike the character.
- Many fans were disappointed that unlike her parents, she's not only not a major character in the play, but never was part of Albus and Scorpius's social circle like many would anticipate, and only becomes slightly friendlier towards them by the end of the play, leaving many fans were upset by the way she was used in the play.
- She's commonly seen by fans as the worst character traits of Ron and Hermione combined, for being naughty, arrogant, rude, quick to anger and slow to forgive.
- Her attitude towards Scorpius is awful, because he's nothing but nice, yet she's quickly prejudiced towards him, shunning him simply for his parentage. For most of the play, she acts extremely jerkish to him. Even worse is that Scorpius clearly has a crush on her and is attempting for most of the play to win her favors, and she simply acts rude towards him, despite Scorpius having done nothing wrong towards her.
- Once Albus decides to befriend Scorpius and gets in Slytherin, she turns against his own cousin, despite the two have being the best of friends until then, causing Albus having a very bad time in Hogwarts. The fact that his positive personality didn't truly change, despite being a Slytherin, doesn't help matters either, which just makes her look prejudiced without reason.
- She does try to reach to Albus in the middle of the play but is heavily implied it was only because her parents asked her for it.
- She becomes somewhat friendlier towards Scorpius after the defeat of Delphini, but she still seems to look at him with pity, and the only real advance is that she now looks at his direction.
- Ironically, the way the relationship with Scorpius was treated actually makes the ship much less popular that it used to be, despite being added for its popularity (for those who don't prefer to ignore the play's existence at least), as some viewers saw it as an attempt from the writers to avert making Albus/Scorpius look too romantic, and the fact it ends up going nowhere beyond the implication that she's slightly less of a jerk now, and the two having little to no chemistry in their screentime together.
- Even writers gave up advancing her character, as later versions of the play often erase relationship chemistry with Scorpius, thus cutting the part that implies she's becoming friendlier and making her even worse.
