Rodrick Heffley (The Long Haul)

NOTE: This article should only contain information about Rodrick in the Long Haul movie, not the books, the first three live-action movies, or the animated Disney+ movies.

Rodrick Heffley is the deuteragonist of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. He is Greg Heffley's older brother and the oldest child of Susan and Frank Heffley.

He was portrayed by Charlie Wright.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]

Many fans not only disliked the fact that a new actor other than Devon Bostick would be playing Rodrick, but also viewed Wright as an unnecessary replacement, even starting a #NotMyRodrick trend on social media.
His attempts to be funny ultimately fail. While Bostick's version has multiple comedic moments, Wright's version comes off as boring at best and irritating at worst.
While Rodrick in both the books and the first three films wasn’t smart by any means, he still had intimidation, decent manipulation and street-smart tactics, some comedic moments, and even displayed a positive character arc regarding his relationship with Greg in the first three films. This version of him has none of these qualities.
While almost none of the cast or characters have been received well, Rodrick in The Long Haul has been arguably the most vocal in terms of negative reception. Even Charlie Wright himself jokingly remarked on the film's poor handling of his character.

Trivia[]

Only The Long Haul film version of Rodrick counts as a Scrappy, as the novels and the first three films's versions of Rodrick are far better received.
