Eobard Thawne, better known as the Reverse Flash, is a supporting antagonist in Injustice 2, the sequel for the DC video game Injustice: Gods Among Us. Like in many other versions of the character he is a sadistic speedster who murdered Barry Allen's mother and proceeded to torment him for the rest of his life. In Injustice 2 he became a member of the society in vengeance because Superman’s Regime killed one of his ancestors and that’s why he’s trapped in the past.
He is voiced by Liam O'Brien.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- First of all, he is basically just a reskin of Flash having EVERY attacks, special moves and even super attack same with only some other voice lines.
- He's lacking nearly everything what normaly makes this character quite popular. He has neither Evil is Cool factor or charisma at all and isn't played over-the-top. Apart from very few interesting voice lines in the noncanon fights he has nothing to offer and is absolutly forgettable.
- His presence in the story felt shoehorned and out of place considering Thawne does not appear nor was he mentioned in prior Injustice medias and only appeared the first time in Injustice 2. Worse off, at this point in the story, Captain Cold is already introduced as the Flash's main antagonist, so it’s questionable why it was needed for Reverse-Flash to also be brought into the story.
- His personal history of him being stuck in the past because an ancestor of his was killed by the regime in the Injustice Universe received negative opinions, mostly because the audience conceived the writing as terrible.
- This motivation felt pointless and doesn’t fit at all with the character of Reverse Flash, who is traditionally a pure evil sadist, to have any sort of reason to hurt the Flash other than wanting to ruin his life out of spite. Especially considering in this universe he still killed Barry’s mother and has tried everything to make his life as miserable as possible even before his ancestor was killed.
- The writers use this excuse to paint him as a tragic and three-dimensional figure which fails horribly because he does absolutely nothing to deserve any sympathy in any way nor does he exhibit any redeeming qualities.
- His inability to return to the future is a flimsy excuse considering he can still time travel to the past, like he does in his Super move, so it doesn't make sense why he can't time travel to prevent his ancestor from dying in the first place.
- He got a really embarrassing moment when Captain Cold and him battle against Wonder Woman: Snart shoots at her with his ice gun and Diana deflects with her shield and hits Reverse-Flash. After that he is frozen standing there in a wannabe badass-looking pose and only frees himself after the fight with Captain Cold and Wonder Woman concluded.
- Also, it’s embarrassing how he cannot dodge the ice ray when he’s a speedster who can simply dodge much faster attacks like bullets.
- Like the other members of the society, when he learns that Gorilla Grodd was working for Brainiac to destroy the earth, he inexplicably vanishes without being seen or heard from again after this for reasons unknown.
Trivia[]
