Ryan Wilder, also known as the Red Death, is a major antagonist of The Flash.
What makes her a Scrappy?[]
- While she was meant to be portrayed as a genuinely scary antagonist like Zoom or even Thawne, a lot of her edginess seemed completely forced.
- All of her development through the Red Death arc was completely wasted and had no hope of ever redeeming itself to be semi-decent in terms of how the arc is written.
- Once she was unmasked, she called herself "Vengeance" in poor taste, attempting to reference the Batman in vain.
- To make her writing worse, her proclaiming herself as Vengeance only made people laugh instead of it making people fear her considering how corny, overused and edgy that line is.
- While she was a calm villain at first, after her unmasking, she began to have temper tantrums like how a child would when things did not go her way, despite being a "Mastermind". Even Eobard Thawne (a villain who was written as a petty and childish yet brilliant archenemy with dangerous powers) seemed way easier to take seriously because of his pure obsession with the Flash with a more elaborate backstory for him.
- Her backstory isn't even that well-written and isn't elaborated on, they don't explain any motive to why she wants to destroy Earth Prime's Flash.
- She was initially set up as an extremely dangerous murderer, yet she barely kills anyone on-screen.
- The acting for the character is in poor taste as well, even if Javicia Leslie's acting as the main Ryan Wilder was decent.
- She is meant to base on her comic book counterpart but lacks almost any personality. This is especially concerning since there were many fans who were excited to see an adaptation of Red Death.
Trivia[]
- Her Prime version is a Base-Breaking Character, which is arguably ironic considering The Flash is the more loved series than Batwoman.
