Historia's Unnamed Husband, also known by fans as Farmer or Farmer-kun, is a minor character from Attack on Titan. As his name suggested, he is the husband of Historia Reiss, and the two have one daughter.
Used to be one of Historia's bullies during her childhood, after Historia becomes Queen of the Walls, he starts working on her orphanage as an atonement of his past behavior at her. He impregnated Historia after being approached into a relationship by her, so she could prevent herself from becoming one of the Nine Titans by inheriting Zeke's Beast Titan. After the Rumbling, Historia married him.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- His existence is simply to keep Historia away from the main plot and a replacement of Ymir in terms of a romance with her, since Ymir already died. While Ymir ended up being a minor character in the grand scheme of things, her character was still fleshed out by the narrative which made her not just Historia's potential love interest. Ymir and Historia had a properly-written romance, while Historia and Farmer's relationship and how the two feel about each other are a complete mystery.
- For being the lover of a main character, the Farmer was hastily and barely added into the story; he is simply introduced as Historia's consort and was one of her former childhood bullies. His relationship with Historia is not even elaborated any further. His face, his personality and even his own name are never disclosed, making him an utterly flat and boring background character, despite fans' expectations to know him better at some point of the story.
- In the story, Nile Dok talked about his importance toward Historia, which means the plot would reveal his background. Unfortunately, there is no dedication chapter when he gets focused to flesh-out his character, making fans feel his addition is completely unnecessary. Had he been removed from the story and replaced by another character as the father of Historia's child, nothing would have changed the plot at all.
- He is described by Nile as a former bully who tried to make amend to Historia by working on her orphanage and farm, leading to Historia choosing him as her partner because he is a mature and hardworking man. However, this description feels empty by many viewers, since there is no flashback from Historia's POV (who completely went out of narrative focus by then) about his character.
- To make it even worse, the last Attack on Titan guidebook retconned that he is Historia's childhood friend, who joined her bullies her to get her attention despite the canon having established Historia had no real friend except Frieda Reiss, her half-sister.
- Overall, while there are a lot of characters in series who are Base-Breaking Characters, the Farmer is widely despised for being a minor character who has no meaningful background and personality aside for being a poor plot device to push Historia away from the plot. To cement this, some fans, while speaking about both Farmer and Historia, choose to refer to the daughter as "Historia's daughter" not "their daughter", and there is little fanart of the two together. Some fans tend to completely erase him from fanart or fanfiction and replace him with Ymir or Eren. The support for Farmer within the fanbase is mostly just memes or respect for managing to become the queen's husband while not having to contribute to the main story.
