~ PaperJam scolding Geno for being suicidal. |
Paperjam, also referred to as PJ, is the titular main protagonist of the Undertale AU comic series PJ's daycare. He is the owner of PJ's daycare and takes care of younger versions of different Sans AUs.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He's in a relationship with a character named Fresh, who is a 3-year-old child, when PJ is an adult, making the latter a pedophile.
- While Fresh was the one who first started the whole "relationship" by saying "I'm gonna marry you when I grow up," it's still unusual, creepy, and counts as pedophilia.
- The worst part is that the audience is supposed to be okay with this even though it's disgusting, and when he gets arrested for being a pedophile, it is played for sympathy, even though before this PJ literally said that to Fresh that they will get married in the future.
- This can also be seen as shipping one version of Sans with another version of Sans, which is very controversial within the Undertale community due to it being selfcest, which is identical to the shipping of twins.
- While Fresh was the one who first started the whole "relationship" by saying "I'm gonna marry you when I grow up," it's still unusual, creepy, and counts as pedophilia.
- His relationship with Fresh feels forced and incredibly wrong on many levels.
- He was still in a relationship with someone else while he was in his relationship with Fresh, making him even worse than he already is as he cheated on them with a literal toddler.
- During the moment the police came to arrest him, PJ would also do an offensive racist joke by asking if the police were arresting him because he was black. It's also worth noting that he mentions this joke twice in the series.
- He yells at Geno for being suicidal and for trying to jump, which is offensive to people who are actually suicidal. What makes this worse is that his brother Error was sick during that time, which made Geno think that he wasn't going to live and made him suicidal and Paperjam said that.
- Even without the pedophilia, this is extremely questionable as a daycare worker.
- While he was originally popular and well liked back when PJ's daycare was popular, he became a lot more hated and despised later on for his pedophilia and insensitivity as a daycare worker.
- He has a tendency to yell a lot, which can get quite annoying, especially in the comic dub.
Trivia[]
- 7goodangel, the original creator of the Paperjam character, expressed her dislike towards the PJ's Daycare version of him on Tumblr, feeling very uncomfortable with his personality and how he was shipped with Fresh, as well as the fandom interpreting Paperjam based on PJ's Daycare rather than her own interpretation, claiming that the Undertale AU fandom "took [her] character and warped him to something he is not and all of his original meaning is lost", and feeling discouraged from sharing her work online because of the problematic ways her own character was treated.[1]
- Paperjam is an interesting version of a Scrappy since he came from an "Ask Me" blog, meaning the audience influenced the plot through questions and suggestions. It was instead how the author chose to execute the audience’s suggestions that caused his hatedom.
- He is one of three versions of Paperjam to be a Scrappy, as most other versions of them are much more well liked.
- He, his Jammy's Love counterpart, Fresh from said Jammy's Love, Jasper/Vampireverse's PaperJam, Killer, Goth and Crying Sans are the only Undertale Fanon characters to be Scrappies and by default the only Undertale scrappies.
- Ironically, all of them (except for Crying Sans who is from Nico's Nextbots) are from BlogTheGreatRouge, who is an infamous artist who used to be in the Undertale Fandom.
