~ Optimus' embarrassing plea to Micronus Prime. |
Orion Pax, better known as Optimus Prime, is the overarching protagonist of the divisive 2015 television series Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
He is the leader of the Autobots who sacrificed himself to save Cybertron before the events of the series. He later returns from beyond the grave to serve as Bumblebee's mentor.
Like most of his incarnations, he was voiced by Peter Cullen.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- First of all, there's the fact that he even came back to life in the first place. Optimus' sacrifice at the end of Prime was an emotional moment, yet the show undoes this by reviving him. What's worse is that it doesn't even take the first episode for him to return.
- His design looks awful. His face has no detail, his neck is incredibly long and awkward looking, and his shoulders are disproportionate to his body.
- He lost all of his interesting personality traits, making him an insufferably boring character.
- Unlike his Prime incarnation, he's always cold to the other Autobots and never shows them any compassion or sympathy.
- He is a completely incapable fighter and struggles to defeat low level Decepticons. Even Laserbeak defeated him one. The show also acts like he needs get extremely basic training lessons from Micronus Prime, even though he's supposed to be an experienced war general.
- Micronus' lessons didn't even matter in the end. They were supposed to teach Optimus how to beat Megatronus Prime, yet Optimus barely even did anything in the fight and Megatronus wasn't even that powerful.
- He always bickers Bumblebee over who should lead the team, even though he treated Bumblebee with immense respect in Prime and would have certainly had faith in his leadership skills.
- After losing his upgrades from the Primes and becoming weaker, the show makes him a burden to his team who only gets in their way. He is also too arrogant to admit this, which is extremely out of character.
- The other characters also start pitying him, as if he's some frail old man with no real value to them.
- At one point, he pretends to be weak to a trio of Deceptions into a false sense of security. While not a bad plan, he doesn't tell the rest of his team about this, which inevitably causes problems for them and makes Optimus look like an idiot.
- Overall, along with removing all of his personality, the show makes Optimus a burden to the other Autobots and constantly puts him down to make Bumblebee look better.
