~ Oogtar praising Yoshi for rescuing him and acknowledging himself as a load. |
Oogtar is a supporting character from the cartoon Super Mario World.
He was voiced by John Stocker.
What Makes Him A Scrappy?[]
- He often speaks in a stereotypical surfer-like voice...in a series that takes place in a dinosaur setting.
- He becomes a load for the other protagonists by accidentally causing a lot of problems for them. When Mario invents a holiday called Cave Christmas, Oogtar attempts to steal all the toys for himself. He also foolishly chooses to go into the Enchanted Forest (a haunted forest) by himself, resulting in Mario, Luigi, and Princess Toadstool (Peach) getting kidnapped by the evil Wizardheimer trying to save him.
- In A Little Learning, he and Yoshi gets Hip and Hop in trouble by tricking them into chewing gum that results in them making a mess in the classroom and getting scolded. Despite being King Koopa's sons, Hip and Hop were genuinely trying to be nice in this episode due to wanting to go to school to learn when their father wouldn't let them enroll, making Oogtar and Yoshi extremely petty and racist. Likewise, everything bad that happens to Oogtar in the rest of the episode comes off as karmic as opposed to unwarranted.
- Because of how unintentionally unsympathetic he is, some viewers hoped that the Koopas would punish Oogtar for his foolishness, as they are much more likable due to their genuinely comedic antics and engaging personalities.
- His personality comes across as more immature and brattier than being mischievous albeit likable protagonist, even more so than Toad. In addition, Yoshi already fills in that role and is much more lovable than him, making Oogtar's role pointless, as he could have easily been a background character with the rest of the cave folk without affecting the story very much, while he could have a few minor roles, instead of being a major supporter.
- While he does have a few funny lines in the series, namely his diet and behavior, they don't detract from how poorly he was written, causing him to be considered the worst-written character in the cartoon.
