Omochao is a supporting character in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He is a mass-produced Chao robot with unlimited knowledge about the world.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Many Sonic fans find his voice to be grating, as he constantly yells his lines in a high pitched, robotic, voice. This could not be disabled in any games he appeared in until Sonic Generations.
- In his debut in Sonic Adventure 2, he is infamous for being an inferior replacement of Tikal, who gave the player hints all throughout the first Sonic Adventure. Though, unlike Tikal, who played a significant part of her game's story, Omochao is not at all relevant to the game's plot, and often gives obvious advice. Worst still, he will spawn next to the player when they have died enough times fighting a boss, meaning that the player will have to listen to them as they are fighting, even if they've already figured out how to fight the boss.
- Fans often cite him being at his most annoying in the second fight between Tails and Eggman, arguably the hardest boss in the entire game.
- A common complaint given to Sonic Heroes is that in the tutorial stage, you must listen to his voice, even when you try to skip his dialogue. This is doubled in that you have no choice but to play the tutorial stage if you choose to play the game as Team Rose.
- Even though several recent appearances of the character were merely to poke fun at his Scrappy status, many of his appearances still treat him as a member of the cast in a non-parodic fashion. A particularly infamous example, Team Rose in Team Sonic Racing has Omochao in the place of Cream, with no mention of the latter anywhere in the game. This naturally upset many Sonic fans, especially ones who liked Cream's character.
- A popular meme surrounding the character is how the playable characters in Adventure 2 can actually harm Omochao by using their attacks on him. In particular, he is noted for how Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and Rouge can pick him up, and toss him at enemies or into a bottomless pit. This has become so well-known that it is not uncommon for people to record themselves abusing Omochao in various ways.
- Ironically, though, attempting to pick him up or harming him will also get him talking to the player in a condescending fashion, telling them he won't help them anymore, or beg to be let go when he is carried. One particularly infamous quote he says while carrying him is "Why don't you get yourself a teddy bear", which arguably makes the player want to carry and/or throw him even more.
