Moxy is the main protagonist of STX's first animated film UglyDolls.
She is an outgoing and optimistic Uglydoll, aspiring to achieve her dream of going to the Big World.
She was voiced by Kelly Clarkson.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- She is a bland and boring protagonist whose motivations are not explained well enough, such as her wanting to go to the big world never being explained and just happens because the plot said so.
- As mentioned above, her goal of going to The Big World just happens, since we never get an explanation or origin of why she wants to go to The Big World. Alongside dragging her friends into it for her own sake, the film even paints her in the right for doing this.
- She is overly obnoxious and sickly sweet, to the point that her obnoxious personality can get on one's nerves, and rarely ever feels upset, which in general makes her look like a one-dimensional protagonist.
- She can get upset for completely dumb and confusing reasons, for example when she was upset that Lou called her ugly. While being called ugly isn't at all nice, she lives from a town called Uglyville, where ugly is used as a compliment between citizens and even her own species is dubbed as uglydolls; it makes absolutely no sense why she was so hurt by being called ugly, which makes her very hypocritical.
- She always thinks about herself and rarely ever thinks about her friends, which the film does not call her out on, because of this her friends are forced to abandon their lives on UglyVille just to support her goal.
- She is indirectly responsible for making Lou (the film's main antagonist) to despise the UglyDolls for continuing to unintentionally spite him and inflating his ego, because of this she led to the entirety of UglyVille to drown in depression by revealing there rejects, and later even make an attempt to exterminate the UglyDolls.
- She doesn't show any compassion or sympathy towards Lou for being unable to go to the big world, and while it's true that Lou is far from a good person, these insecurities are the reason why this is, and instead leaves him to be tortured by the robot dog, making her even more hypocritical before as she allowed the spy girls to redeem themselves while she doesn't let Lou have a chance, despite the fact that they did not apologize, while he did (even if he was possibly faking it).
- Overall, she is a Mary Sue that always gets what she wants, shows barely any struggle due to her saccharine personality, and is never portrayed in the wrong despite doing various things that would be considered sociopathic and egotistical in the real world, thus also making her a karma Houdini.
Trivia[]
- Ironically, her archenemy, Lou, had the exact opposite reaction by audiences. Whereas Moxy was disliked for being a bland and unintentionally unsympathetic character who everyone in-universe loved, Lou was adored for having a complex backstory and being unintentionally sympathetic as a result, despite every character in-universe hating him by the end.
