The Mouse is the main antagonist of the Looney Tunes short "Canned Feud". He is an unnamed mouse who torments Sylvester when he's been left alone by his owners.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- While he’s meant to be a comedic villain, he’s too vile and unlikeable as he relentlessly torments an undeserving Sylvester for no reason with the goal of making him starve, which is too mean-spirited and disturbing for most to find humorous.
- He's also the main reason for the short's reputation as one of the most mean-spirited cartoons made by the studio, even more so than the Daffy and Speedy shorts.
- Even if he's not meant to be rooted for the viewer is still meant to find him funny, but this backfired due to how excessively cruel and unjustified his actions are.
- When Sylvester has been left alone for two weeks and is in danger of starving, the mouse steals the can-opener so Sylvester can't eat any food.
- He has no motive for his actions other than pure sadism as Sylvester was never shown doing anything to provoke him, and making Sylvester starve doesn't benefit him in any way.
- He repeatedly torments Sylvester by withholding the can-opener and injuring Sylvester in numerous ways when he tries to get it back, such as electrocuting him.
- When Sylvester finally manages to turn the tables and get the can-opener, he then discovers that the mouse has pad-locked the food cabinet shut and is now withholding the key needed to open it. The short ends here, with Sylvester apparently doomed to starve to death and the mouse getting off scot-free for his actions.
