Minilla (ミ ニ ラ, Minira) is the small, adopted child of Godzilla created by Toho and his first appearance was in the 1967 Godzilla movie, Son of Godzilla. While his regular incarnation is a very polarizing character in the fanbase, his incarnation in the All Monsters Attack continuity is almost universally despised.

He was played by Masao Fukazawa and voiced by Midori Uchiyama.

What Makes Him a Scrappy?

• The regular Minilla is already a controversial character as some fans see it as an annoying character with an ugly design and a desperate attempt to appeal to children which Godzilla constantly has to save out of having weak powers, however he did have a sweet bond with his father, some nice moments and helped defeat King Ghidorah in Destroy All Monsters, averting him being completely disliked.
• The All Monsters Attack incarnation took all the elements that make fans dislike the original character and made it worse by turning him in the deuteragonist of the movie giving him even more focus than in his own titular introductory movie.
• He's turned into the imaginary friend and confident of Ichiro Miki out of being his favorite monster, which can be seen as character shilling considering how divisive the regular Minilla is.
• He's suddenly given a voice, which is not only annoying but jarring and out of place with the series considering not other Kaiju has ever talked in the series before or after this (besides a brief instance in the English dub of Godzilla vs. Gigan and the Shobijin translating the discussion between Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan in Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster).
• He's also given a dopey voice in the English Dub which makes him more annoying.
• He's constantly talking during the fight sequences (which are mostly stock footage anyway) and constantly making the fights about himself and Ichiro's issues in real life (which makes sense considering is all happening in his mind but not least frustrating).
• He's even weaker that his regular version in that he doesn't even attempt to fight Gabara or any of the other monsters (justified in that they are stock footage of movies where he wasn't present).
• His dialogue contextualize all the fights as the other kaiju bullying him and Godzilla standing up to him, a much less exciting explanation for the fights that the one given in the original movies.

Trivia

• His Scrappy status only applies to his All Monsters Attack-continuity incarnation, as while he's a polarizing character in the fanbase, he has enough fans to be considered a base-breaking character and is quite popular in Japan commonly being high in popularity polls. Some fans also warmed up to him for helping defeat Ghidorah in Destroy All Monsters and stopping Godzilla from going against humanity in Final Wars.
