Max Mercer is the main protagonist of the 2021 movie, Home Sweet Home Alone. He is a ten-year-old British boy who gets left home alone.
He was portrayed by Archie Yates.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Instead of funny, he comes off as incredibly bratty, whining about soda and then later steals a can of soda.
- He is seen to be greedy as he contemplates stealing toys from church that were donated to the poor.
- He is a complete rip-off of Kevin McCallister almost going through beat by beat what Kevin had done in the first Home Alone movie, but without an iota of the charm.
- The seen where he goes into a BMW to watch television is considered an example of shameless product placement.
- While in all Home Alone films, the traps are brutal, in this movie the traps are plain sadistic as Jeff and Pam try to get Max to stop torturing them, but Max continues to abuse them, when they even admit they never wanted to harm him.
- Due to the film's sympathy giving to Jeff and Pam, it makes Max's traps on them not come off as comedic but sadistic; what doesn't help this is the multiple examples of Jeff and Pam breaking down and crying about their pain.
- He is disrespectful for his mother such as when he whines about not getting McDonald's.
- His motivation for wanting his family gone is based off of selfish reasons due to him being stuck around a large amount of people, while Kevin's family had actually berated him, making his reason for this to be understandable.
- Most of the traps he uses are rip-offs of others from the other films.
- Many people hate Archie Yates' portrayal and acting which is obnoxious, which is a surprise as a previous role of Yates, Yorki from Jojo Rabbit was far better received.
