Mary Junson is a secondary character from the 2021 movie Coming 2 America . She's a woman who Akeem had sex during his tenure in United States causing a son, Lavelle, who by law is the rightful heir to Zamunda throne.
She was played by Leslie Jones who also played Patty Tolan in the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot.
What Makes Her A Scrappy?[]
- She drug raped Akeem during the events of the original movie and conceived a child out of a that relationship despise this the narrative treats her as a mild annoyance at worse with Akeem only reaction to the information is to be angry at Semmi for being okay with it
- She casually mentions she used to sleep around a lot on her younger years which implies this wasn't the only circumstance of this happening.
- Despise this, the character is never called out and is treated as just another part of her quirky personality and not a single character seems to have any sympathy for Akeem with her wife and daughters getting angry for sleeping with another woman and causing a bastard heir to the throne, his father has known for years and only uses as an excuse to get a male heir and Semmi was part of the event and took the chance to score himself. Even worse is that is constantly treated as Akeem's mistake which can come up as victim blaming.
- Akeem is forced by King Jaffe to take Lavelle as his new heir and despise never inviting her and Akeem having very valid reasons to not want her to go, she gets in the trip anyway out of Lavelle's insistence meaning he's forced to give her a life of luxury for the incident.
- Even before getting on the plane she starts asking for expensive and luxurious stuff and in Zamunda she constantly acts like she already owns the place and gloats in front of Akeem's family about how her son will own Zamunda just exacerbates her character's detestability.
- Her whole existence causes a continuity error with the original movie. In the sequel it is shown that Akeem and Semmi met her and her friend during the bar sequence in the first movie and went to her house to have sex despise the original movie having them leave the bar being frustrated to have being unable to score.
- Lisa and Mary form a friendship in the middle of the movie and once she leaves, she's pissed off for Akeem causing the circumstances that caused her and Lavelle to leave, so Akeem is forced to get back the woman that raped him, which also makes Lisa look like a jerkass.
- She also appears a lot and more that many characters of the first movie and is probably the main comic relief of an already poorly received sequel.
