Martin Heiss is a major character in the 2016 reboot film, Ghostbusters.
He is a renowned scientist known for his work in debunking paranormal phenomena. After the titular characters begin capturing ghosts in New York, Martin intends on providing them false.
He was portrayed by Bill Murray, who also portrayed Frank DeTorre in Osmosis Jones.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He is given little characterization beyond being an arrogant jerk to the Ghostbusters for no reason, from publicly insulting Abby and Erin's book about the history of the paranormal to constantly insulting the Ghostbusters when they refuse to show him a ghost.
- Bill Murray does a poor job portraying Martin, as most scenes have him talking in a dull tone and moving around stiffly. He additionally doesn’t have a comedic charm or creatively snarky sense of humor that Bill Murray's other characters are well known for.
- He is given a humiliating death when he is killed by a ghost that he forced Erin to release to prove it wasn’t real. This is especially insulting considering that he, like the other cameos, were meant to be an homage to the original, but Martin's death came off the wrong way considering that Murray portrayed one of the most famous characters from the original films.
- He is overall pointless to the movie, as his actions are done to a bigger extent by the Mayor and his death is immediately brushed off in the next scene.
Trivia[]
- Allegedly, Bill Murray was forced to play Martin due to a contract and only agreed to portray him if he died in the film.
