~ Mario |
Mario Mario is one of the two titular main protagonists (along with his younger brother Luigi Mario) of the 1993 live-action film adaptation of Super Mario Bros.
He was portrayed by the late Bob Hoskins.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Unlike his original counterpart, which had plenty of character and personality behind him, this version of Mario barely has any personality aside from being a regular plumber.
- This version of Mario is disliked for being disrespectful to his source material, examples of this are that he does not wear his signature outfit until near the climax of the film and that in one scene he said he can't jump.
- Even Bob Hoskins, his actor, hated playing the character throughout the production. In an interview, he stated that he only took the role of Mario for the sake of one of his sons who was a huge Mario fan, and spent days off from production being drunk with John Leguizamo (who plays Luigi), to be away from the miserable experience.
Trivia[]
- He is the first and only version of Mario to be a Scrappy (at least so far).
- Ironically, Mario is more liked in Japan, especially in recent years as the movie as a whole is viewed by Japanese audiences as more interesting than recent Mario releases.
