Malekith the Accursed is the main antagonist of the 2013 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: The Dark World, the second installment of the Thor film series.
He was portrayed by Christopher Eccleston.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He has been severely criticized for his lack of depth or personality besides just destroying things, making him be considered the blandest villain that the MCU had ever created, since his goal of destroying the Nine Realms is given no motivation.
- His presence in the movie is very little, which viewers think makes his lack of personality even worse due to not having anything to compensate for it.
- Similar to Kaecilius from Doctor Strange, much of his scenes and backstory has been cut from the film in favor of scenes with Thor and Loki to develop them. This controversial choice outraged a lot of fans as it renders Malekith, the main villain, to a one-dimensional character with no development. The fact that the movie is also one of the shortest in the MCU makes this even worse for the viewers.
- He is also a poor adaptation of his comic counterpart:
- In the comics, Malekith was a dark elf obsessed with war and willing to bring it wherever he goes. His personality is similar to Loki in said comics but without the humanity. The fact that none of this is even present in the movie makes his emotionlessness and unfounded sadism a whole lot worse to experience.
- Malekith's comic design is very colorful and flamboyant, but his MCU design has been criticized for being boring and bland.
- He is also a powerful sorcerer in the comics but in the MCU much of his prowess seems limited or lacking especially that he only became more powerful by absorbing the Aether and was easily losing against Frigga.
- Even people who liked the movie or found it decent agreed that Malekith is an uninteresting villain, and it is mainly through him that it is considered one of the MCU's worst films.
- Even Christopher Eccleston, his actor, thought quite poorly of his lack of presence to justify fleshing out Thor and Loki.
Trivia[]
- He is current icon of the "Delete" template.
