MAN is the main protagonist villain of the MAN social commentary video by Steve Cutts. He is supposed to be a symbolic representation of humanity's destruction on the ecosystem and itself.

What makes him a Scrappy?[]

  • He is meant to embody a green aesop towards how humans pollute the environment, but the video is mostly a long montage of him committing animal cruelty and pollution which shoves the message into the audience's faces, which is undermined by its bleak and accusatory tone.
  • He ends up conveying a bleak and hopeless message, showing that there is no solution to the problem other than for humans to be removed from the equation entirely. Rather than being a call to action, it instead comes off as guilt-tripping the viewers for being humans and being incapable of doing anything about the situation.
  • While he was meant to be a hate sink and a social commentary, he instead comes across as being a symbol of misanthropy more than change, due to how he portrays humanity as being wholly evil and irredeemable. Some viewers even said that they developed misanthropic views after watching the animation though they would later reflect on how toxic such a view was.
  • Detractors find him hard to take seriously due to the over-the-top manner of his cynical connotations, passing off as a cliché criticism towards modern society.

Trivia[]

  • He, along with The Protagonist from "Are You Lost In The World Like Me?" are the only scrappies to be from a Steve Cutts animation.
