Lori is the secondary antagonist of Total Recall's 2012 remake.
In the remake, Lori's role was a combination with the role of Richter, being also Vilos' second-in-command like Richter in the original film as well as his spy like Lori was in the original film.
She was portrayed by Kate Beckinsale.
What Makes Her a Scrappy?[]
- Lori's character lacks depth and complexity, making her motivations and actions seem one-dimensional.
- Her role as a villain is predictable and doesn't offer any surprising twists or developments.
- Some viewers found Kate Beckinsale's portrayal of Lori to be overly dramatic and exaggerated.
- The supposed marriage between Lori and Douglas Quaid feels unconvincing and lacks genuine chemistry.
- Lori's character falls into the clichéd trope of the femme fatale, without adding any unique elements.
- Her combat skills and physical abilities sometimes seem unrealistic and exaggerated, even for a sci-fi film.
- The remake doesn't provide enough backstory for Lori, making it difficult to understand her true motivations.
- Some of her lines and dialogue feel forced and unnatural, detracting from the overall narrative.
- Lori's behavior and actions are sometimes inconsistent, making it hard to follow her character's logic.
- The film focuses more on Lori's action scenes rather than developing her character, leading to a lack of emotional depth.
- Her role in the film feels redundant at times, as she doesn't significantly contribute to the plot's progression.
- Despite being a central antagonist, Lori fails to leave a lasting impression as a memorable villain, making her character more than a little annoying.
- The character was so poorly received that it ended up destroyed Kate Beckinsale's major film career as a result, Kate Beckinsale has since then only made some low-budget movies The Trial of Cate McCall, Stonehearst Asylum and The Disappointments Room due to the failure of this remake until she came back in 2016 with the critically acclaimed Amazon movie Love & Friendship and the ITV/Amazon series The Widow three years later and later confirmed in 2017 during the MeToo and Time's Up movement that she was sexually harassed by her The Aviator executive producer Harvey Weinstein in 2001.
