Locke the Echidna is a major protagonist in the original Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comics.
He is the father of Knuckles and a member of the Brotherhood of Guardians who intends on convincing Knuckles to take his place as future guardian of the Master Emeralds.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- His treatment towards Knuckles is disliked immensely by fans. While the comics attempt to portray his training as necessary, fans disliked Locke's training methods, such as manipulating and stalking him or bombarding Knuckles' egg with radiation to mutate him.
- It is said that Knuckles' training was far from normal even by the Echidna's messed up standards.
- As stated before, his training is meant to be seen as necessary and for Locke to be seen as a wise and sympathetic extremist, the fact that he isn’t called out for his actions until his last appearances made these points null and void.
- As said before, issues penned by Ken Penders tended to justify all of Locke's actions as necessary for the greater good, with only other writers like Karl Bollers and Ian Flynn willing to have Locke called out for his actions.
Trivia[]
- Locke's creator, Ken Penders, attempted to sue the makers of the Sonic films for including a character that resembled Locke and was Knuckles' father and not giving him credit.
- Ken apparently based Locke off his own father.
