L. Lawliet is the main antagonist of the 2017 adaptation of Death Note. He is a teenaged detective who is obsessed with taking down Kira and killing Light Turner. He is a gloomy anti-hero and is willing to go outside of the law in order to stop Kira.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He’s mainly criticized for being a loose adaptation of L, with many fans thinking he’s L in name only.
- Unlike the original L, who is stoic even during difficult situation, this version has a short-temper and tend to act angry most of the time, which felt weird in the fans’ eyes for a version of L.
- While he does appear composed in the beginning of the film, he loses it after Watari goes missing, which made him seem a big case of derailment to the viewers.
- He is considered a bad example of Autism in the film as it only shows him in a way seen as stereotypical.
- He quickly shows Light his face after meeting him in a restaurant, which is a considered a bad mistake.
