~ Kai Leng |
Kai Leng is a major antagonist of Mass Effect 3. He is an assassin who works for Cerberus and the archenemy of Commander Shepard. Leng is also a former N7 marine in the Systems Alliance Navy.
He was voiced by Troy Baker.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Even before he joined Cerberus, he was extremely xenophobic, killing a krogan that ran into him during a break at the Citadel, which caused him to get a sentence of 20 years in prison and lost all of his reputation as an N7 marine.
- He frequently comes off as annoying and unlikable, due to him lacking much personality beyond being a massive jerk towards Shepard and their crew.
- He can kill Thane Krios depending on the player's choices, who is a favorite character among fans.
- His loyalty to Cerberus and the Illusive Man is meant to be portrayed as genuine, but often comes as him trying to use them to kill people, and it's never treated in a likable way.
- His death when Shepard kills him by stabbing him is treated as one of the best moments in the series due to just how satisfying Kai Leng's death is.
- He is meant to be portrayed as an evil counterpart to Shepard, which both makes no sense and fails at doing it well, as Shepard can become evil dependent on the player's choices and he lacks the likable qualities Shepard has, such as their cool and funny moments.
- For all these reasons, Leng has become one of (if not the) most hated characters in the trilogy, despite the creators wanting to make him look like a cool villain.
Trivia[]
- He is one of three Mass Effect villains to be a Scrappy, alongside The Archon and The Catalyst.
