John Coleman is a supporting protagonist of the 2009 horror film, Orphan. After his wife's stillbirth to their third child, John and Kate decide to adopt Esther from St. Mariana's Home for Girls.
He was portrayed by Peter Sarsgaard.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- After his wife's stillbirth to their third child, Jessica, John decides to cheat on his wife.
- His refusal to listen to Kate's warnings about how dangerous Esther is to their family.
- Whenever Esther causes a strife within John and Kate's marriage, including breaking her own arm and framing Kate for it and pointing to some wine found in the kitchen to paint Kate as a drunk who put their daughter into danger, John chooses to continue to refuse to listen to Kate and to blindly trust Esther.
- The end result of John's overall obliviousness is his family being put into danger. His son being hospitalized by Esther when she sets his tree house on fire and his daughter rolling down the hill when she put the car into reverse could've easily been avoided if John had just listened to Kate's warnings about how dangerous Esther is.
Trivia[]
- While John was written to an oblivious father who wanted to bond with his new daughter, the fans took issue with his refusal to listen to Kate's warnings about Esther and had no issue when Esther finally killed him.
