Janis Ian is one of the main protagonists of the 2004 teen comedy, Mean Girls. When Cady arrives at North Shore High School, Janis uses Cady as her proxy to infiltrate the Plastics and get her revenge on Regina.
She was portrayed by Lizzy Caplan.
What makes her a Scrappy?[]
- Even prior to having Cady sabotage the plastic, she forced her to do things she wasn't comfortable for doing, such as skipping class and spying on the Plastics.
- Some of the ways Janis encourages Cady to sabotage the Plastics include feeding off Gretchen's insecurities and encouraging Regina herself into gaining weight.
- When news of Janis's schemes gets out, she places the more harmful aspects of her revenge scheme on Cady despite the scheme being her idea in the first place.
- Throw's Cady, who was supposed to be her friend, under the bus when she taunts Regina by revealing everything she did in front of the entire school.
- In her "Reason You Suck" speech to Regina, she openly brags about Cady kissing Regina's boyfriend. This is despite the fact that it was an accident due to Cady tripping.
- While the movie intends for us to sympathize with Janis for being an outsider and view Cady as a horrible person post face-heel turn, especially during the scene where Cady hosts a party and doesn't invite Janis or Damian, the movie paints Cady rightfully calling Janis out for having her participate in her 8th grade revenge scheme as a bad thing.
- The worst part about all of Janis's manipulations is that, not only does she not take responsibilities for her actions, but she also gets away with them, is easily forgiven, and gets no karma for her actions.
