Hi-5 is the tritagonist of the critically panned 2017 animated film The Emoji Movie.
He was voiced by James Corden.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He's a narcissist that wants to be popular again, and while this is not necessarily a bad thing, his attitude comes off as obnoxious and unsympathetic which ruins any sort of potential with the character. While he's supposed to become nicer, few changes are visible and is still an annoying idiot at the end of the day.
- He causes several problems throughout the journey. For example, he turns on the Just Dance app, which causes the app to be deleted and also gets himself thrown in the trash, forcing Jailbreak and Gene to rescue him.
- His attitude is supposed to be funny, but it badly fails because of how unlikable he is and because of how unfunny his humor is, such as a scene where he states that "he'll never eat a piece of candy ever again", but after vomiting it, puts it immediately back in his mouth despite what he just said which is really gross.
- Another example of this would be when he twerks in front of the camera during the Just Dance scene, which is not only cringeworthy and disgusting, but also makes no sense since hands don't have butts.
- He isn't really important to the plot of the movie as most of the scenes that involve him can be removed and it would barely affect the plot, serving only as a filler comic relief with barely any role in the plot and even fails at being a comic relief due to his unfunny humor as mentioned above.
- What also affects his detractors is that many of them can't stand his voice actor James Corden who does an extremely poor job as him, sounding mostly lifeless and giving a dull performance.
- While none of the characters are well liked, Hi-5 is the worst written and most unpleasant character due to what is stated above.
