Gil Gunderson is a minor recurring character on the animated sitcom series, The Simpsons. He is a failed lawyer with very bad luck, even living on the streets.
He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta.
What makes him a Scrappy?[]
- He feels like a poorly made replacement for Lionel Huntz, as both are incompetent lawyers who are hired by The Simpsons and generate comedy through it. However, Gil is more annoying than anything else and they try to make him feel sorry, failing to do so.
- He starred in the infamous episode "Kill Gil, Volumes I & II" where after being fired from his job as Santa Claus after fulfilling a wish for Lisa, he stays living for a whole year in The Simpsons' house, being an annoying slacker who abuses the kindness of The Simpsons. When he finally leaves and succeeds, he loses everything after being confronted by Marge about how abusive he was, causing him to return to live with them. Although it is intended to be comical, it actually fails and is more annoying. The worst thing is that they try to make him sympathetic because of his bad luck and his kindness to Lisa at the beginning and her "comedy".
- His design is simple and unattractive, it is supposed to be a shame, but this does not work well.
- He doesn't have much personality beyond being a failed employee and his jokes are only limited to that, which is quickly exhausted.
- The episodes where he plays a relevant role are at best considered mediocre.
- Unlike Lionel Huntz, he practically doesn't have any people who like him, for he is known for being an unintentionally unsympathetic loser introduced in the post classic seasons.
