General Dreykov is the main antagonist of the 2021 superhero film, Black Widow.
He is a Russian terrorist and the archenemy of Black Widow who killed her mother in the past before transforming her into an assassin and plans to rule the world with an army of brainwashed assassins.
He was portrayed by Ray Winstone.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He is seen as very flat in terms of personality as his plan essentially amounts to another "Rule the World" scheme, which comes off as generic.
- He is considered to be underutilized, as he is only briefly mentioned in Avengers and Age of Ultron and is never given any depth or attention until years later in Black Widow.
- Many have criticized Dreykov’s over the top nature, as it distracts from the grounded story that the movie wants to tell.
- While the film tries to portray him as a genuine threat, his generic goals, confusing methods and motivations, and the fact that he doesn’t do anything in the film till the third act makes him feel less of a threat to the viewers.
- Ray Winstone doesn’t do a compelling Russian accent, as it sounds more British.
- His death scene suffers from poor editing on the fire that kills him, which makes it hard to take seriously.
