Gabby is the deuteragonist from the 1939 Paramount Picture Gulliver's Travels, and later got his own spin-off series of theatrical shorts as the titular main protagonist.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- He was a poor attempt to mix the comic relief of Dopey from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with the temper of Donald Duck; the results were far from favorable as he lacked the loveable traits of either Disney character.
- He makes little to no contribution to the plot of Gulliver's Travels.
- He thinks much too highly of himself and constantly brags about how important he is.
- It was because of him that King Bombo followed through with his decision to declare war on Lilliput. The Blefuscu king was about to apologize to King Little and cancel the war, until Gabby made his way into the palace and one of the guards accidentally grabbed Bombo instead.
- When Prince David sings a reprise of "Forever" to Princess Glory, Gabby mistakes the prince for a spy and launches an attack on him, which is cut short when Gulliver intervenes and takes the two lovers to a private place.
- After Snitch sets him free and offers to shake his hand when the war is over, he proceeds to beat the tar out of Snitch instead of thanking him.
- He isn't any more entertaining in the shorts he stars in either. If anything, they show how rude, inconsiderate and foolish he is.
- Even the characters he interacts with don't seem to tolerate him much either.
- His voice is like nails on a chalkboard (literally).
- Along with the financial failure of "Mr. Bug Goes to Town", his own short-lived series was a big reason for the closure of Fleischer Studios and the opening of Famous Studios, thus he never appeared in another Paramount cartoon again.
