Fei Long is the titular main protagonist of the live-action web film FEI LONG Offensive and Defensive Path. He is a skilled martial artist and a fan of Bruce Lee.
He is portrayed by an actor under the pseudonym Fei Long, and this Fei Long is viewed as a self-insert.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Despite it is intended to demonstrate this Fei Long as a wise martial artist, Fei Long's poor performance, including but not limited to his illogical dialogues and underwhelming martial art skill, makes him neither wise nor a skilled martial artist.
- This Fei Long's supposed heroic actions are not convincing. For example, the film initial has Fei Long fighting against fighters recruited and sent by a criminal organization, but the storyline is completely abandoned later and the audiences never know the fate of the criminal organization.
- This Fei Long's attempts of flirting with female characters are considered unnecessary and disgusting. The prominent example is that he demands Chun-Li to close her eyes and imagine their romantic relationship with him for three minutes before fighting against him, and the film starts to show their imagination of having romantic relationship, which lasts about three minutes.
- The film fulfills the plot by having multiple characters expressing admiration to him and/or his supposed accomplishments. An example is that Guanyin descends simply to express her admiration to Fei Long, and compares him to Liu Bang, the founder and the first emperor of the Han dynasty.
- Because the plot of the film has no intention of distinguishing between the titular protagonist Fei Long and the actor Fei Long, it could be considered as a self-insert. With the reasons listed above, it is safe to say that the portrayal of Fei Long disrespect Bruce Lee despite the actor Fei Long claimed otherwise.
