Eddie is a minor character who appears on the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones.
He is portrayed by English pop singer, Ed Sheeran.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- Much of the hatred that Eddie receives is less because of anything he actually does and more because it's painfully obvious that it's Ed Sheeran playing himself as he's not even trying to act. The fact that his character is only in the episode to surprise Maisie Williams (who's a fan) and to sing a random song isn't helping his case.
- It's even more ridiculous that he plays a Lannister soldier sent to keep the peace (after the assassinations at the Twins), and when Arya finds Eddie and his men, visibly recognizable in their Lannister armors, she decides to sit down to drink with them, even though it would have made more sense for her to avoid them, since the Lannisters are her enemies and she was the culprit of the events at the Twins.
- Also, she also confesses in front of him and his men that she is on her way to kill Cersei, which causes them to burst out laughing, unaware of her intentions and thinking she's joking.
- Eddie is an unnecessary celebrity cameo that many fans feel breaks the immersion of the episode as his only purpose is to sing "Hands of Gold".
- Despite only appearing in the season 7 premiere, Ed Sheeran's cameo was derided by GOT fans that his character was later mentioned being burned alive by a dragon offscreen in season 8. For some bizarre reason, Eddie managed to survive this
- While Hands of Gold itself isn't a bad song, the fact that it was the only reason why Ed Sheeran appeared in Game of Thrones did very little to endear Eddie's character in the eyes of the fanbase.
