NOTE: This is only referring to the Doctor Light from the Post-Crisis continuity, as his other counterparts are not considered Scrappies. |
Doctor Light is a supporting antagonist in both the Justice League and Teen Titans series of the DC franchise.
He is a supervillain and mad scientist who battled both the Justice League and the Teen Titans with the goal of proving himself superior to them. While at first he was presented as a joke villain, newer comics shed light on his truer, more depraved personality.
What Makes Him a Scrappy?[]
- While he used to be an entertainingly incompetent villain, he was retconned suddenly to being a serial rapist. Not only was this out of nowhere, but it comes up so often and with no buildup that it comes off as being unnecessarily edgy.
- He is a generic doomsday villain who causes constant destruction towards Star City and kills dozens of kids simply to spite Green Arrow and no other reason.
- The narrative attempts to portray him as a genuine threat to be taken seriously, but his long monologues, bizarre obsession with rape, and ugly face expressions make him hard to take seriously as a powerful threat.
Trivia[]
- His Pre-Crisis and New 52 counterparts are not Scrappies due to the former being an entertaining comic relief and the latter for having a more complex backstory and motivations, as well as neither being a rapist.
- Interestingly, his Pre-Crisis counterpart was revealed to be him after losing his memories, meaning that that version could be considered a Scrappy by technicality.
